Buckhorn Creek Trail in Tuscarawas County
The Buckhorn Creek Trail is on the site of an old C&M Railroad bed. The development of this 8-mile trail was of the early action projects in the Tuscarawas Trail and Green Space Plan. Working in partnership with the county commissioner, area land owners, local governments, corporate partners, and volunteers; Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition has been working to develop the trail.

Stream Bank Restoration area on the Buckhorn Creek Trail
The southern 5-miles of the trail just north of Newcomerstown, were the site of a “Clean Ohio” stream bank restoration project in 2007 and 2008. This $230,000 project was funded by a “Clean Ohio Grant” from the Ohio Public Works Commission and the work of over 100 volunteers.
The Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition oversaw this project with the help of a local contractor, Tuscon, Inc., and local volunteers. Volunteers helped to move the trail, plant native trees to help prevent erosion, install benches and picnic tables, and provide trail maintenance. Over 3000 dogwood trees were planted in the winter of 2008, and have since become beautiful additions to the trail.

This project will help stabilize the stream bank next to the trail and prevent erosion. The Buckhorn Creek Trail is an 8 mile trail running from Newcomerstown to Stone Creek parallel to County Road 21 and I-77.
