The Akron Civic Commons Lock 3 Park project received $1 million grant award in the FY 2022 Omnibus Appropriations legislation passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden through the visionary leadership and strong support of Congressman Tim Ryan and Senator Sherrod Brown. The $1 million Community Funding Project grant award will be used for the redevelopment of Lock 3 Park, including shaded seating, landscaped gardens, artwork, skating areas, and a world-class performance pavilion. Located in the center of Akron, and along the 101-mile Ohio & Erie Canalway and Towpath Trail, Lock 3 Park is being transformed into a premier park that is accessible, equitable and welcoming for residents and visitors. As President and Chief Executive Officer Dan Rice noted, “We are extremely grateful to Congressman Tim Ryan and Senator Sherrod Brown for their incredible support and commitment to Akron Civic Commons Lock 3 Park and the Ohio & Erie Canalway. Through their tremendous support, Lock 3 Park will become a regional destination along the Ohio & Erie Canalway and a legacy for future generations.”
