The Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in Massillon is now closed from Lake Avenue to Warmington Road.

Below is a suggested, unofficial route for users of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail to use, created by Ernie's Bike Shop in Massillon: 

If you're traveling south on the Towpath:

1. Turn LEFT out of the Lake Ave Trailhead parking lot onto Lake Ave and go over the bridge.

2. At the end of the road, turn LEFT onto Third St.

3. In one mile, turn LEFT onto Cherry Rd.

4. In 0.2 miles, turn RIGHT onto Erie St at the light. You will be crossing Rte 21, so please use caution!

5. In 0.5 miles, turn RIGHT onto the sidewalk on the south side of Tremont Ave at the light.

6. Continue 0.4 miles along the south sidewalk of Tremont Ave, across the bridge.

7. On the other side of the river, turn left and follow the path BENEATH the Tremont Bridge. You're now on the Sippo Trail!

If you're traveling east on the Sippo Trail/OTET:

1. At the Tremont Bridge in Massillon, follow the signs to cross the bridge.

2. Turn LEFT at the Erie St traffic light.

3. In 0.5 miles, turn LEFT onto Cherry St at the light.

4. In 0.3 miles, turn RIGHT onto Third St. You will be crossing Rte 21, so please use caution! Third St will be the first right after crossing the highway.

5. In one mile, turn RIGHT onto Lake Ave.

6. Cross the bridge and hop back onto the Towpath, which runs along the Lake Avenue Trailhead parking lot.
