The Summit Bike Share program is now open for the 2022 season until November, 2022. The Summit Bike Share is a free bicycle share system with eight locations across Akron and two locations in Barberton.
Bicycles will be available to borrow at eight locations in Akron, including the Callis Tower at Ohio & Erie Canal Park, Courtyard by Marriott Akron Downtown, Kenmore Branch Library, Lock 3, Maple Valley Branch Library, North Hill Branch Library, the Richard Howe House, and Summit Lake Community Center. There are also two locations in Barberton at the Lake Anna YMCA and the Barberton Public Library.
A collaborative effort of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, Summit County Public Health, City of Akron, City of Barberton, the Barberton Community Foundation, Knight Foundation and Tuscora Park Health & Wellness Foundation, the Summit Bike Share provides an accessible, equitable and healthy mode of transportation for residents and visitors of Summit County. The primary objective of this program is to encourage individuals to use bicycling as an alternate mode of transportation to visit attractions, commute to work or enjoy a bicycle ride for pleasure or exercise.
“We are grateful to our funders for enabling us to provide this important health and wellness, transportation and recreation program. The Summit Bicycle Share program demonstrates our commitment to equity in bicycling, regardless of your income, race, education and experience,” said Dan Rice, President and CEO of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition.
Using Summit Bike Share is very easy. Simply ride, return, repeat! Users may stop inside the any of the partner locations to speak with a front desk staff member to request a bicycle. All Summit Bike Share locations will require a valid ID and signed waiver to use a bicycle. Riders can use the bicycle for up to three hours and then return it to the same location.
